Customize the workspace

Show or hide the Navigation View

  • On the Home tab, click Workspace and in the Navigation View section, click Open or Dashboard Mode.

Shortcut Click the A less than symbol representing hide at the top-right of the Navigation View to collapse it. Click anywhere in the collapsed panel to reopen it.

Show, hide or re-order columns in the List View

  1. Click in the List View.
  2. On the Home tab, click Workspace / Customize. The Customize Current View dialog box opens.
  3. Use the arrows to select and order the columns.

Click Reset to restore the default List View columns.

Sort the items displayed in List View

You can sort the items displayed in the List View, by clicking the header of the column you want to sort by—for example, to sort items by their creation date, click the Created on column header.

When you work with codes and the members of sets in the List View, you can set your own custom order. Reorder and organize codes

Restore default List View columns

  1. Click in the List View.
  2. On the Home tab, click Workspace / Reset all Customizations.

Show thumbnails in the List View

This is most useful when you are working with pictures or videos.

  1. Select the required file folder.
  2. Click in the List View.
  3. On the Home tab, click Workspace, and in the List View section, click Small, Medium or Large Thumbnails.

Change the display of the Detail View

You can position the Detail View on the right or at the bottom of the window. When you use drag and drop to code or show coding stripes it is best to position the Detail View on the right. When you use the Quick Coding bar, or if you are working with queries, the Detail View is best at the bottom.

On the Home tab, click Workspace, and in the List View section select Right or Bottom.

Detail view can be undocked

  1. Open a project item.
  2. On the Home tab, click Workspace / Undock.

Show or hide the Find bar

  • On the Home tab, click Workspace, and then Find.

Show, hide or move the Quick Coding bar

By default, the Quick Coding bar is displayed at the bottom of the Detail View when you open a file or code. You can undock the Quick Coding bar so that it floats over the workspace—then you can move it to any location in the NVivo window.

  1. Open a file or code.
  2. On the ribbon tab for the file or code, click Quick Coding and select Hide, Docked or Floating.

Pin items to Quick Access

The Quick Access area at the top of the Navigation View allows you to pin frequently used project items where they can quickly find them.

  • Drag and drop items to the Quick Access area to pin them there. You can pin folders, documents, codes, cases and other project items.

You can also right-click an item and choose Add to Quick Access.

Pinning an item in Quick Access does not move it from its original location—it provides a quick way to find the items you use most often.
