AI Assistant: Suggest Child Codes

Using the AI Assistant: Suggest Child Codes option, you can select a code and generate child codes based on the coded content.

  1. In Navigation View, click Coding and then click Codes.

  2. In List View, select the preferred parent code, right-click, and select AI Assistant: Suggest Child Codes.

  3. If the Artificial Intelligence Terms of Use dialog is displayed, follow the steps below:

    1. Click the AI Terms of Use link in the dialog.

      Lumivero Artificial Intelligence Terms of Use page is displayed for you to read.

    2. Return to NVivo, check the confirmation check box.

    3. Click OK.

  4. In the AI Child Codes dialog, select the preferred Child Code Language and click Generate.

    The generated child codes are displayed in the AI Suggested Child Codes section.

  5. Select a child code suggestion to view the corresponding code references.

  6. By default, all the child code suggestions are selected, to deselect a child code, uncheck the Add Code checkboxuncheck the checkbox on the left.

  7. If you want to add the code suggestions without the coding references, uncheck the Add Refs checkbox.

  8. (Optional) To make the coding references more meaningful, you may want to use the Spread to option. This controls the amount of coding spread around each coding reference.

    • Coding Reference: This is a default option which saves the text reference (for surveys, all the text in the cell) as shown in the Coding References section.

    • Narrow Context: If the reference is in:

      • Documents, PDFs, externals, memos, audio/video transcripts, or picture logs: By default, the coding is spread to five words before and after the coding reference.

      • Survey: The coding is spread to the surrounding cell.

    • Broad Context: If the reference is in:

      • Documents, PDFs, externals, and memos: The coding is spread to the surrounding paragraph of the coding reference.

      • Audio/video transcripts or picture logs: The coding is spread to the surrounding cell.

      • Survey: The coding is spread to the surrounding row.

    • Custom Context: If the reference is in:

      • Documents, PDFs, externals, and memos: The coding can be customized to spread to a custom number of words before and after the coding reference, surrounding paragraph style of the coding reference, or entire text.

      • Audio/video transcripts: The coding can be customized to spread to rows overlapping timespan or set a custom number of rows.

      • Picture logs: The coding can be customized to spread to a custom number of words before and after the coding reference, surrounding paragraph or cell.

      • Survey: The coding can be customized to spread to a custom number of words before and after the coding reference, surrounding cell or row.

    • Entire File: If the reference is in:

      • Documents, PDFs, externals, memos, audio/video transcripts, or picture logs: The coding is spread to the entire file.

  9. Click OK.

    The selected child codes suggestions are added to the parent code with or without code references (as selected).
