Create a new project

You can create a new project saved (as an .nvp file) on your computer or a network drive. If you have access to NVivo for Teams, and have appropriate user permissions, you can create a new NVivo for Teams project.

Create a new project

  1. Click the File tab, and then click New.
  2. Enter a name for this project in the Title box (names cannot include any of these characters: \ : / * ? " < > | ).
  3. (Optional) Enter a description for this project in the Description box.
  4. Click the Browse button on the File name box.
  5. In the Save as type list, make sure NVivo Projects (*.nvp) is selected.
  6. (Optional) Change the default file name and location.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click OK.

NOTE

  • Select the Write user actions to project event log check box, if you want to turn on project event logging—you can also do this later via Project Properties.
  • If you cannot select NVivo Projects (*.nvp), check your connections. You need a standalone connection to create a new project on your computer.

Create a new NVivo for Teams project

If you want to create a new NVivo for Teams project, you need access to NVivo for Teams and need to have appropriate user permissions. You must also have a connection to NVivo for Teams. Collaboration Server

  1. Click the File tab, and then click New.
  2. Enter a name for this project in the Title box (names cannot include any of these characters: \ : / * ? " < > | ).
  3. (Optional) Enter a description for this project in the Description box.
  4. Click the Browse button on the File name box.
  5. In the Save as type list, make sure NVivo Server Projects is selected.
  6. From the Connection name box, select the server where you want to create your new project.
  7. (Optional) Change the Project name—by default, the project name is the same as the project title.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Click OK.

NOTE

  • The Connection name box is empty if you have not set up any NVivo for Teams connections—click the Add button to create a new connection using the Connection Properties dialog box.
  • If you receive a message indicating that you do not have permission to create a project on NVivo for Teams, verify with your NVivo for Teams administrator that you are in a user group that has permission to create new projects.
  • When you create a new NVivo for Teams project, you are automatically added to the Project Owners project user group and your project user profile is created.
  • By default, 'guest access' is disabled in the new project—only members of the Readers, Contributors or Project Owners project user groups can access the project.
